PROFESSIONAL BEAUTY – THIS MONTH WE TRIED… DERMATUDE SKIN BOOSTER FACIAL

I love to road test advanced treatments and it’s even better when it’s a speedy one I can have before heading straight back to the office. Dermatude is the microneedling machine from Nouveau Beauty Group, which also has a complementary line of skincare serums that deliver actives into the dermis to boost collagen production.

I went along to see salon owner and Nouveau brand ambassador Elizabeth Caroline at her Harley Street clinic to try out the treatment. This was the first time I’d tried a microneedling facial, and I was looking forward to seeing what I could do for the open pores on my cheeks, and the fine lines on my forehead.

Despite the images that its name conjures up, microneedling isn’t painful, although it can feel uncomfortable on areas where the skin is less dense, like the forehead and nose. The device is set to a 0.5mm depth, so the needling is consistent across the face. Caroline began on my jawline and cheeks, stopping every couple of minutes to apply more of the Dermatude hyaluronic acid serum, then working up to my forehead and finishing with my nose.

The treatment is only 30 minutes, so it’s suitable for clients looking for a quick fix, and there is no downtime. Caroline applied a thick layer of serum then moisturiser to my skin before I left. I had some initial redness, which went down within about 15 minutes, and I made sure to keep my skin make-up free for the rest of the day, and avoid any product other than the Dermatude serum and cream Caroline gave me.

While my skin was quite red at first, the treatment certainly had an impact on my open pores. Four days later my skin was still feeling smooth and looking fresh.
